Robert has been involved in the scientific and optical instrument sector since 1983, having started his career in the Duracell laboratory. He has worked for some of the world’s top scientific instrument companies such as BDH, Merck, Thermo Fisher and the Nikon Corporation in a variety of commercial and technical roles.

In 1991 Robert joined Nikon UK and was appointed to General Manager of the UK Instrument business four years later. He introduced a number of the firm's microscope and image analysis ranges to the UK. He also led the company's entry into advanced confocal laser scanning and super resolution microscopy – quickly gaining it market share.

We are developing and commercialising cutting edge biophotonics instruments

Latterly Robert worked on global strategy, business and market development for the Instrument business. It was here that Robert helped Nikon consolidate its market position in live cell imaging systems.

He was part of the team that oversaw the post-acquisition implementation Metris B.V. into Nikon’s Instrument business and he set up the Acutius consultancy to advise on go to market and commercialisation strategies.

Robert joined M Squared Lasers in December 2015 to lead the new Biophotonics business based in Guildford, Surrey, where we are developing and commercialising cutting edge biophotonics instruments such as the new Aurora Airy beam light sheet microscope system.
