Douglas is an experienced Chartered Accountant with significant UK and international experience in finance, change management, commercial, legal and project management. He has held leadership roles in a variety of organisations that have all grown to significant scale. As M Squared’s Chief Finance Officer, Douglas is both passionate about the mix of science and business and committed to enabling the company’s global growth.

Douglas qualified with Ernst & Young in 1994 where he remained working for EY Scotland, Poland and the Netherlands specialising in corporate finance, consultancy, audit, project finance and financial modelling. In 2000, he joined InterGen UK Limited - a Shell and Bechtel joint venture. As Director of M&A and Strategy, he moved on from Intergen in 2007, at which point the company had grown to a turnover of £500 million with 160 staff.

More recently, Douglas spent seven years at privately-owned Scottish company Composite Energy, where he negotiated commercial agreements with numerous blue-chip companies which resulted in development expenditure of £50 million. He also helped to restructure and reposition international oil services company Weatherford across the UK, Norway, Azerbaijan and Sub Sahara Africa.

Douglas’ interest in procurement and the charity sector also sees him taking on the role of Finance Director for Citizens Advice Bureau (Falkirk). Prior to this he provided part-time lecture support to students of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply syllabus at the City of Glasgow College.
